Good News For People With Bad Breath

Did you know that the bacteria that causes bad breath can be killed off by a substance from the bark of a magnolia tree? This is the latest research just out and it was conducted bya famous company which makes mints. Obviously looking to make a killing with a new mint! They found that when this substance was used in a mint, it killed off 60% of the bacteria which cause bad breath, compared with a normal mint which killed off a mere 4%!

If you suffer from bad breath, you are not alone. Experts now say that this is a major social and psychological problem which affects the majority of the population, Yes, it is that bad ! But babies, cats and dogs also suffer from the same problem.

How do you know you have it ? The easiest way to determine if one has bad breath is to ask someone who is trustworthy or simply ask your doctor or dentist. Another, more private, method of determining if one has bad breath is to lick one’s wrist, wait until it dries, then smell the area. Scraping the rear area of the tongue with a plastic spoon, then smelling the spoon, is another method one can use to assess bad breath.

How come that bad breath exists and what causes it ? Basically the bacteria in your mouth release rather smelly material which will coat the mouth lining, teeth and gums. But the major amount will be deposited on the tongue. Cigarette smoking and even passive smokers may have this problem. Spicy foods and fatty foods, and coffee may all create rather unpleasant smells. Garlic and onions are well known in craeting social barriers, especially in the short term so you have to plan well ahead ! In these situations, a sprig of parsley, combined with a good brushing amd a mouthwash or mint will usually do the trick.

Occasionally, a person may develop delusional or obsessive behaviour regarding breath odour problems, and mental health counselling may be appropriate. Finally, many medical conditions can contribute to bad breath, including periodontal disease, xerostomia (dry mouth), respiratory tract infections, chronic sinusitis or bronchitis, postnasal drip, diabetes, gastrointestinal issues and liver or kidney disease. Most mouthwashes only disguise bad breath for a short time.

Oil-containing mouthwashes are now gaining popularity as a home-based cure for bad breath. Most cases of bad breath are the results of bad oral hygiene- that means a build up in bacteria and that will cause your breath to become offensive and unpleasant. Some mouthwashes containing zince have been found to be effective. Then there are a whole range of mouthwashes containing antibacterial agents such as cetylpyridinium chloride, zinc gluconate, essential oils and cholride dioxide. Diet with fresh fruits (apples and citrus) together with celery help to keep a healthy mouth together with plenty of water to stave off a dry mouth.

. Possible homeopathic remedies that may be useful for bad breath include Nux vomica and Kali phosphoricum. The most effective treatment of bad breath is to treat the cause. If bad breath is a continuing problem or there are other symptoms, such as bleeding gums, a doctor or dentist should be consulted. A medication change may be warranted if a prescription drug is contributing to bad breath. Most bad breath can be treated successfully with good oral hygiene or medical care.

So, while we will have to wait a while for magnolia bark mints to solve the problem, in the meantime, we will have to look for quicker solutions. the site below will explain all about bad breath and offer a fast long term solution.

How to Deal with Anger – Tools for Controlling Rage

anger management? :pImage by marielito via Flickr

by Dee Cohen

Each day we are challenged by various situations such as the copy machine jamming, getting stuck behind a slow driver or a call from your kid’s teacher. When you have a rough encounter or crisis you can often feel at your worst. It is easy then to fall into old reactions.

We have knee-jerk reactions when we are angry and on edge. This makes it easy for us to fall into an unconscious reaction with others. We end up saying what we regret later and feeling mad at ourselves for being out of control.

When driving, uncontrolled anger can be deadly. It can result in both obnoxious and unsafe behavior including cutting off a person, excessive honking and obscene gestures. Other drivers then react to this and they can end up being also impatient, angry and wreckless.

In the midst of driving if you see someone that is hitting the steering wheel, furiously honking or giving someone the finger don’t feed their rage but ignore them. You don’t want to antagonize someone more especially because their poor driving can impact lives. Realize that they are stuck in issues they don’t have insight into and have compassion instead.

Driving can be scary if someone is aggressive and being irrational. Also make your safety the priority. When someone is in a bad attitude, don’t look them right in the eyes. They will feel challenged or criticized. It is good to not try to teach someone a lesson but instead just stay peaceful inside.

The science of anger management enables someone to learn ways to stay calm in the midst of rough situations. Breathing, relaxation and visualization all are means to not be a yo-yo going up and down. There are ways to master your mind and emotions so you don’t just act like a leaf in the wind.

By learning anger control tools you not only master the current situation but many other ones. If you can be calm on a long grocery store line then you also will deal better with tension at work or a problem with a credit card etc. You will practice various exercises that you can apply and they’ll be noticed by your friends as you change.

Self-mastery is a great accomplishment and one you’ll be so proud of. You won’t feel like you are just living out your subconscious because you have a moment of choice where you can act intelligently with clarity. This takes some work but it is so worth it.

Why Should I Exercise My Brain?

Brain Rules by John J MedinaImage by brewbooks via Flickr

by Trevor Kassulke

Even though the brain is not actually a muscle the brain does need to be exercised regularly so that it will continue growing and developing nerve connections that help improve memory. While studying the brain and how memory works scientist realized there were things that could be done to improve your long and short term memory.

These things can include easy exercises like paying close attention as you hear new details so you can recall them better later. If you are nervous or distracted you may miss hearing something, like a person?s name, that you might want to recall later on.

It takes approximately eight seconds for memories to move from the short-term memory area to long-term storage areas. If you do not pay enough attention to details you can have difficulty remembering them later.

?Over-learning? is another common technique for strengthening memory. This is what a person does when they repeat a bit of information over and over again ? they are over-learning it so that there is more of a chance that it will be stored in long-term memory.

Like riding a bike, the other techniques may seem complicated at first but once you get the hang of it they become as natural as any other process.

Learning different techniques to improve your memory is often affected by the teachers you have. In example, some researchers will suggest that you chew gum to improve your memory and increase the amount of brain power you have. Others claim moving your eyes from side to side for at least thirty seconds can help your memory.

You probably know that a diet based on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and “healthy” fats will provide lots of health benefits. This same diet can also improve memory.

There is obviously no one method or technique that will improve memory for everyone. However, it is important to “exercise” the brain, otherwise the adage “use it or lose it” definitely applies to the brain.

Persuading with The Competitive Edge

United States Olympic Triathlon TrialsImage by Diamondduste via Flickr

by Kenrick Cleveland

I noticed something interesting at the gym. The gym I go to is by no means a meat market. . . there are few mirrors, most of the patrons are really there to work out, not to see and be seen, the clientle, on the whole, seems to care about attaining or maintaining their health through exercise and that’s their agenda as far as being there goes.

On occasion, despite this not being one of ‘those’ kinds of gyms, I notice that I’ll be on a stationary bike or elliptical machine going at my pace and then someone will get on the machine next to me. My response is not conscious. I automatically pick up my pace a little. It could be that my other than conscious wants us to show off a little at how good we’re getting. Maybe it doesn’t want to be out done.

Conversely, I have also noticed if I get on a machine next to someone, they’ll often do the same thing. Most people have a high desire for competition. This drive may or may not be something we embrace. I’m a competitive person who embraces it. As a sales person I loved challenging myself using other people’s records as benchmarks. I would constantly challenge myself to double or triple what the other sales people around me were doing.

As resources become limited, competition escalates. Watch any show about animals and how they compete for water and food and mates. In the U.S., especially, we have managed to build our entire economy on the survival of the fittest. We don’t care about trade or cooperation, but compete for recognition, for money, for mates, for parking spots, for first in line. Ironically, when we’re done competing out in the real world, many of us enjoy watching other’s compete–sports, game shows, reality contests, beauty competitions. WE LOVE A GOOD COMPETITION.

My observation at the gym showed me that competition can be a huge incentive for self improvement. If I frame it as such, I can convince myself that by working out harder, showing them what I’m made of, I win. And really, everyone wins. We’re all in a context where we are doing ourselves good (unless fanaticism plays a role and injury strikes).

So how can this base instinct be used most effectively for selling our products or services? Well, we see it all the time. . . two gas stations across the street from each other with slightly different prices, the lower of the two deciding to take that much less for the product. I’m not suggesting you lower your prices by any means, but through framing, we can show ourselves, our products, our services, as the answer in the minds of our affluent prospects and clients. ‘I am by no means the cheapest, and in fact, I may be one of the more expensive realtors, but you really do get what you pay for.’

What is your relation to competition? Do you embrace it or shy away from it?

Time Management Tips: Don’t know What to Do Next?

202px ThingsMacAppIcon Time Management Tips: Dont know What to Do Next?Image via Wikipedia

by Cheryl A. Clausen

Just thinking about everything you need to do may leave you feeling overwhelmed, and unsure about where to start. You may also worry that you aren’t even sure if you know everything you have to do. Here are some time management techniques you can use to get unstuck and going again. The best way to get yourself out of this mess is to identify where you really are. Start with a blank piece of paper and list all the actions you’ve committed to taking. Don’t list things that involve more than one action or ideas.

You want to list actions for two reasons. When you list actions you know exactly what you need to do so it’s easier to just do it. When you list ideas or things that involve more than one action your mind has to sort through the idea and identify the individual actions every time you see this thing on your list.

This just increases your feelings of overwhelm and stress, and that’s exactly what you don’t want. Listing just actions makes it easy for you because there are no decisions involved, and you don’t have to take time to figure things out. You just see the action, decide on which action to take, and take the action. So what do you do with those ideas and multiple action things? With those things just enter the next logical action you need to take. And if your idea is something you want to take action on someday, but not now park it on a separate idea list.

Now that you have everything on one list, even though it may be many pages, you’re ready to start to de-stress. Set aside some thinking time where you can begin to define your long term goals. Until you figure out what you really want to accomplish where you really want to be in life you live the life of the mindless automaton.

The mindless automaton just goes through the motions each day allowing everyone and everything else to decide how they will invest their time. If you want to succeed at anything in life you never want to behave this way. Rather know where you want to go and how you’re going to get there so you can develop good time management skills.

When you know where you’re going and why, you can decide what to do next. It’s not possible to do everything on your list at once, but you can decide which things to take off your list and I want you to do that now. Don’t be shy take anything that isn’t moving you closer to your big picture goals off your list, and then only prioritize the top three actions you need to take each day one day at a time. As you do this day in and day out and you’ll get where you want to be before you know it.
